Allena has worked as a Departmental Editor, a Marketing Writer and Managing Editor. She then began a fulltime freelance writing business of her own.
Experience:
Allena has over 7 years of experience in writing and editing, including full time, part time and contractual gigs. She currently runs a (busy!) freelance writing and editing business, GardenWall Publications and blogs about the freelance business at GardenWall's Freelance Writing blog. Major contracts include managing editorial duties for a regional publication, an editing sub-contract with an international curriculum publishing company, and several web-based and professional blogging clients. She also has writing credits in multiple local, regional and state publications and magazines. She shares her passion for writing by teaching a local seminar on "How To Break Into Freelance Writing," and by heading up a writers critique group. She has been invited to speak on freelancing and writing at both local and national writers rallies and conferences.
Education:
Allena earned a baccalaureate degree in English from Michigan State University, which included an internship at a nationally distributed magazine, and a grant writing internship with a local non-profit. She minored in her other two passions: Spanish and Elementary Education. She is currently pursuing her Masters degree.
From Allena Tapia:
"I quit the full time cubicle race in order to follow my lifelong dream of being a working, paid freelance writer. Through a series of trial and error, I learned what works and what doesn't, and am very proud of my thriving writing business and the credits I've accumulated. I want to share my journey with others who know they can succeed in this field!"
